Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Prevention Coordinator, the focus of the Prevention Workers will be to implement prevention programing to children, youth, and families to support wholistic wellness. The Prevention Worker will provide services through a trauma-informed lens with a focus on preventing negative outcomes stemming from intergenerational trauma inclusive of grief & loss. The position will be responsible for the delivery of a prevention program that best fits the needs of M’Chigeeng First Nation which include planning, researching, coordinating, and facilitating workshops and activities geared at various target groups or ages.

Essential Functions:

• Identifies, reviews and research special projects referred to in prevention: as it applies to current trends.
• Plans, coordinates, and facilitates workshops, trainings, and activities.
• Collaborates with other related services and workers.
• Prepares community wide/oriented prevention campaigns related to Youth, parent and family activities explores programs that aim to target the Community and the top health priorities and to promote education within the community.
• Determines the gaps in service and identifies and designs programs to address the needs of the target population.
• Implements and delivers prevention programming.
• Facilitating curriculum from funding opportunities.
• Conduct outreach to youth in need.
• Engage, and empower youth to pursue personal goals.
• Assist in creating and maintaining positive environments for children and youth in the community.
• Assess prevention needs of children, youth, and families.
• Build positive relationships with children, youth, and families.
• All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

College Diploma in Social Services or related field of study (i.e., Addictions & Mental Health Diploma, Social Services Worker Diploma, Child & Youth Care).
1 – 3 years work-related experience in the field of child & youth mental health.
Experience in delivering workshops.
Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act.
Knowledge of statistics.
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe and etc.).


Other:

Familiar with customs, traditions, and social issues of the M’Chigeeng First Nation.
Strong skills in program planning, promotion, implementation, and presentation.
Understanding and fluency of Anishinaabe language is an asset or the willingness to learn.
Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a team setting and/or independently; Ability to facilitate groups and carry projects forward.
Ability to work with varied populations (children to adult).
Strong conflict resolution skills.
Individual must be open to holistic approach.
Ability to work some flexible hours when necessary.
Lifestyle must reflect that of a positive role model.
Working knowledge of Harm Reduction Philosophy.
Must obtain and keep current First Aid and CPR Certifications.
A strong advocate of M’Chigeeng First Nation’s goals and objectives along with its mission and long-term vision.
Must have own transportation and valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.

Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) requirement must be 30-days current and must be an original upon hire.
