Reporting Relationship

The Postal Services Clerk reports to the Finance Director and is supervised by the Postal Lead and Officer Administrator.

Position Summary

The Postal Service Clerk is responsible for assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of the community postal office. This position involves providing front-line customer service, processing incoming and outgoing mail, handling postal transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the safe and timely handling of mail and packages. The Clerk will contribute to a welcoming and organized postal environment.

Essential Functions

  • Support the provision of counter sales and services in a dealer outlet, which includes sorting, organizing mail on a daily basis.
  • Working the service counter in sales and doing end of day sales report
  • Maintains good relations with postal customers and all staff
  • Monitors and report inventory shortage to Postal Lead
  • Support postal delivery/receiving such as daily sortation to lock box delivery, and general delivery
  • Ensuring the building is clean and tidy at all times.
  • Answer telephones. Provide courteous and efficient customer service at the postal counter.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages.
  • Prepare outgoing mail for dispatch, including weighing, labeling, and stamping.
  • Sell postage, shipping supplies, and other related products.
  • Accurately handle cash, debit, and credit transactions and balance cash drawer.
  • Assist customers with questions about postal services, delivery options, and postal regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the postal counter and back-office areas.
  • Perform data entry and maintain daily logs and reports as required.
  • Follow established safety and security procedures for handling mail and customer information.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma with strong understanding of postal operations and regulations
  • Complete all training required when provided

Other:                  

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Ojibwe culture and First Nation community is a must.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Work appropriately and sensitively with confidential information.
  • Work flexible hours and weekends when required.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency in office software and post office equipment
  • Excellent organizational
  • CRC Required.
  • Must be available during operating hours of 10:00 am – 5:00 pm with flexibility in hours and weekends when required

Work Environment:

  • Generally, very busy and hectic. Physical demands are the physical activities that the job requires the worker to do, standings, lifting, ensure building clear of debris.
