Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Health Services Manager, the Medical Transport Driver is responsible for safely transporting clients to and from medical appointments, treatments, and health‑related services using MFN provided vehicles. The role includes both local trips within the community and long‑distance travel to regional hospitals, specialists, and other care facilities. Duties include ensuring client safety and comfort during transport, assisting clients in and out of the vehicle when required, maintaining accurate trip records, following all transportation policies and confidentiality standards, and ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean, fueled, and in good working condition. The driver represents the organization professionally and provides courteous, supportive service to all clients.
Essential Functions
Client Transportation
- Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, treatments, hospitals, specialist visits, and other approved destinations.
- Provide both local transport within the community and long‑distance trips to regional medical centres (e.g., Sudbury, Manitoulin, or other designated locations).
- Assist clients with mobility challenges, including entering/exiting the vehicle, carrying personal items, and ensuring seatbelts are secure.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all traffic laws, organizational transportation policies, and health and safety regulations.
- Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle safety checks (e.g., tires, fuel, lights, brakes, sanitary condition).
- Report mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately to the Health Services Manager or designated maintenance personnel.
- Ensure compliance with privacy legislation and confidentiality standards, including respecting client medical information.
Client Support & Communication
- Maintain a professional, supportive, and respectful attitude toward all clients.
- Communicate clearly regarding pick-up times, delays, or changes in scheduling.
- Notify Health Services staff if a client requires additional supports or presents any health or safety concern during transit.
- Must be comfortable with periods of waiting during client appointments.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate trip logs including mileage, destinations, times, client names (as permitted), and any incidents.
- Submit completed paperwork, fuel receipts, and logs in a timely manner.
- Participate in required training sessions, including defensive driving, CPR/First Aid, and confidentiality training.
Vehicle Care
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean, sanitized, and well-maintained.
- Ensure the vehicle is fueled and ready prior to scheduled transports.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum five (5) years of driving experience
- Valid Class G License with a clear driver’s abstract
- Reliable and punctual, safety focused, strong communication skills, problem solving and adapting, professional and confidential.
- Must have knowledge of M’Chigeeng First Nation
- Respect for sensitivity toward the Anishinaabe culture and language
- Be able to lift at least 40 lbs when necessary
- Valid First Aid and CPR
- Must adhere to the Medical Transportation Policy
